At Sissinghurst

Touch hands in an intimate
kiss touch sudden heat
in a cold-fingered morning touch the leaves
and fields and woods in a great garden
alight in October touch words let them lie
at ease and mingle in a fine tousled
bed of land touch a flower-brilliance lightly
aflame touch fire of the heart in a newfound
hearth of molten iron as the sun touches
the earth and we two walk in a shared garden
alight again in an afternoon flush
of beauty as our thoughts and hands and bodies
touch again
