Dialogue: He and She

She: The promises you made to other girls
wake from their coffin as a green snake curls
out of a basket that was made for pearls.

He: Stop conjuring anger with such foreign hands
that leave us stranded as in opposite lands.
We have swum out beyond those lazy strands.

She: I cannot help my dreams. They flesh the air.
I must stretch out to know if you are there.
You shout at me as though you do not care.

He: The wind is out of breath and I am wild,
wild as the crossing of the waves is wild.
Fasten your arms about my midnight child.
