Get Out of Me

Get out of me, you sprawling, smiling marvel!
My love, you fool around with magic eyes.

Now I am clenched as rock and chained as ice.
Now I am weak as water, loose as gravel.

You knitted me a jersey of fine hours.
The dream we knitted I cannot unravel.

It hung between us, caught us on a level.
We chased it up with pretty words like these.

Get out of me, you maudlin, pampered liar!
I wrote a poem swearing to our love.

I woke up and you healed me with a leaf.
Get out, get out, for we have torn apart!

My mind is chaste and definite as fire.
Get out of me, you sick and deadweight heart.
