To Whatsisname
A little learning is the thing to do.
You came from nowhere, venturing from the wild –
and we say welcome, you can live here too.
Chaos of things, and noise, I thought I knew.
So knowingly the hospital I dialled.
A little learning is the thing to do.
You rage at us to come and attend to you
and loll and guzzle, king of the house self-styled –
yet we say welcome, you can live here too.
You croon and snort and gargle, choke and mew,
and almost speak, O sleep-encountering child.
A little learning is the thing to do.
Yet though you’ve turned the air around you blue
with stench and baby curses, yet you’ve smiled –
and we say welcome, you can live here too.
Someone you will be, we do not know who.
You are here and human, hands clenched and eyes mild.
A little learning is the thing to do –
so we say welcome, you can live here too.
